More than 4,000 People Demonstrate against the ERE of ABB
17 Jul,2019
More than 4,000 people have demonstrated this Monday in Cordoba against the Employment Regulation File (ERE) presented by ABB, which in principle affects 49 workers of the plant Cordovan.
The union representatives, the political parties of the city and the different public administrations have joined the demonstration, among them the mayor of Córdoba, José María Bellido, and the territorial delegate of Employment of the Board in Córdoba, ángel Herrador, a those who have joined Marina Borrego and Vicente Palomares, general secretaries in Córdoba of CCOO and UGT, respectively.
The president of the company committee of ABB in Córdoba, Jesus Villegas (CCOO), has indicated at the beginning of the demonstration that "ABB's ERE not only affects the workers of the plant, but the entire city, because it is to remove a screw more to the factory and Cordoba can not afford to lose more industry ".
In this sense, Villegas insists that if ABB is allowed to dismantle the line of switches, as it claims, "it will be wounding the plant in Cordoba, because it is likely to lose its appeal for Hitachi, which has acquired 80 percent of the division of electrical networks of the multinational ".
For this reason, the representative of the staff has emphasized the importance of administrations and political parties taking a stand for the Cordoba industry and defend it, because "it is the future".
For its part, the Secretary General of CCOO of Cordoba, Marina Borrego, said that, "as it can not be otherwise, CCOO continues to support the workers of ABB today, and I think the message is clear: Cordoba and its citizens reject this ERE that, it must be remembered, does not respond to an economic cause, because the company does not go badly, the company makes it look bad, but the reality is different, they want to take the production to another site because they have sold the factory and it no longer fits into their plans, and it is shown by the industrial plan they have presented, a plan that does not clarify anything or say anything, that does not include a single date and does not commit anything. "
Also, Vicente Palomares, general secretary of UGT Córdoba, said that "today is a day of struggle for the Cordoba industry and UGT will be, as it has always been, in this type of situation", and thanked "the support of all citizens , institutions and different administrations to these colleagues who live an uncertain future ".
For the union leader, "we can not allow ABB to go down the road that has marked the weakening of the industry and the dismantling of a line that subtracts opportunities for the future." "There are no reasons for this ERE, we must move the position of ABB, which raises this record as something irreversible when UGT we are sure that it is not," Palomares adds.
In this same line, Villegas has criticized the attitude of the company, which so far has not moved from its initial position and that seems to have no plans for the factory in Cordoba, as reflected in the industrial plan that has presented, a plan that is "very general, that does not specify anything or clarifies what is the future after the ERE".
In this sense, Borrego makes it clear that CCOO will be with the workers "until the last moment, supporting them and defending their rights before the instances that are necessary, because it is not only the loss of jobs of the factory, but the industrial employment of the city and the auxiliary positions that it generates ".
Finally, Palomares has defended that we must work on two lines, "the street, always necessary, and a second in which we have to propose solutions for the future because we can not allow to miss a single job in the Cordovan industry ". "When Hitachi comes, he has to find a friendly city, where it is worth growing up", concludes the general secretary of UGT Córdoba.
